On the Island of Itaparica…

…the Sacatar Foundation operates the Instituto Sacatar, an oceanside historic estate where creative individuals working in all disciplines may apply for eight-week residency Fellowships.   These residency Fellowships provide unstructured time and space for selected artists to develop new work in the vibrant context of Bahia, Brazil. Selected through a competitive process open to all, each Sacatar Fellow receives a private bedroom with attached bath, a separate studio suitable to the artist’s discipline, laundry service, meal service (except Saturday evenings, Sundays and Brazilian holidays), and logistical support throughout the artist’s stay.

Within the broader community…

…the Sacatar Foundation engages with individuals, community organizations, schools, museums, libraries, and other cultural organizations to present public programs, performances, and educational opportunities locally within Bahia and around the world. Conversations and collaborations that begin in Bahia make their way across oceans and continents to find new audiences.
