Former Sacatar Fellow Victoria-Idongesit Udondian (Nigeria/USA, Visual Arts, 2018) is participating in the 61st International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia with Obroni Wawu (Dead White Man’s Clothes), a site-specific installation on view from May 6 to November 22, 2026. Curated by Koyo Kouoh, the work combines textiles, audio, and performance to examine the global circulation of secondhand clothing and textile waste, exposing the environmental and social consequences of Western consumerism for African communities. Bringing together elements from her long-term projects Ofong Ufok and Okrika Reclaimed, the installation foregrounds the labor of immigrant communities and the impact of waste colonialism in Ghana. Through performance and multimedia elements, Obroni Wawu reframes sites of exploitation as spaces of resilience, resistance, and collective renewal.
Her work is located at the Giadino delle Vergini in Venice, Italy.
