Instituto Sacatar and the current group of resident artists INVITE you to our next Open Studio Afternoon. Meet the artists in residence and learn more about their work and experiences in Itaparica.

This residency session, running from March 17 to May 5, 2025, brings together eight artists from a range of countries, including Brazil. Come explore Sacatar and connect with the resident artists!

bahia confessions
Screenplay created by Alexey Dodsworth during his group residency at Sacatar in 2021, “As Confissões da Bahia em Quadrinhos” won two of the most prestigious comic book awards in Brazil in 2024: the Odyssey Award for Fantastic Literature and the Best Editorial Project Award at the HQMIX Trophy!

Beya Gille Gacha
Sacatar fellow Beya Gille Gacha was one of the highlights of the Curator’s Selection in the 2024 Dakar Biennial.

Takuya Imahori
Japanese composer Takuya Imahori had the world premiere of the piece he finished at Sacatar.

Ayoade Balogun
Sacatar fellow Ayoade Balogun returns to Bahia to collaborate with noted visual artist and designer Alberto Pitta.

Current Partnerships
Sacatar is proud to foster partnerships with local and international organizations!
These are our ongoing partnerships:

SECULT: Through the Fundo de Cultura and the Apoio a Ações Continuadas of the Secretary of Culture of the State of Bahia (SECULT), Sacatar is realizing the project "Bahia Mundo". Ilha das Crianças: Ilha das Crianças is a non-profit located on the island of Itaparica, focused on supporting local youth and their families. Artists in residence at Sacatar often offer workshops to their students. Also, Sacatar's Young Mediators are Ilha das Crianças alumni. https://www.ilhadascriancas.org/br

Year of France in Brazil: Sacatar is partnering with the French Consulate in Recife, Fondation des Artistes, FRAC Bretagne, and the Moly-Sabata Residency for residencies and activities in the context of the Year of France in Brazil. https://www.institutfrancais.com
