There is only one selection process for the Sacatar Open Call. There is no separate application or selection track for candidates seeking Villa Fatumbi support.
All applications, from artists around the world, go through Sacatar’s standard selection process: an initial evaluation by discipline-specific selection committees, followed by a final interdisciplinary jury, and a round of interviews. Every application is assessed together, regardless of nationality or place of residence.
Once that process identifies the artists who will be offered a residency, all selected French artists are then presented to Villa Fatumbi, who will select one artist to support.
Who is eligible?
– Artists originally from France, including French territories, are eligible, even if they don’t currently live in France.
– Artists born elsewhere but currently based in France (including French territories) are also eligible.
Do I need to apply separately or indicate interest?
No. There is no extra step. If you select France or a French territory under “Country of Origin” and/or “Country of Residence” in your application, you will automatically be considered for Villa Fatumbi’s support if you are selected for a residency.
Being presented to Villa Fatumbi does not guarantee their support. French artists selected for a Sacatar residency who are not chosen by Villa Fatumbi will still receive their residency under Sacatar’s standard terms.
