We are proud to announce the launch of a partnership between MacDowell and Sacatar, creating new opportunities for former Fellows of both organizations through a reciprocal residency exchange.

This partnership marks an important milestone for both institutions. This is MacDowell’s first international collaboration and the start of the MacDowell Global program. The program marks a more outward-looking role for one of the world’s most prestigious artist residencies, deepening its engagement with the Global South, particularly with Latin America. For Sacatar, this is an opportunity to collaborate with a long-standing reference in the field of international residencies, while reinforcing its commitment to supporting U.S. arts organizations that are actively seeking more international, diverse, and multicultural perspectives at a moment when such exchanges are both urgent and increasingly rare.

At the heart of this partnership are the artists. In 2026, Sacatar will host a former MacDowell Fellow, and MacDowell, in turn, will host a former Sacatar Fellow. This reciprocal residency will open new creative and professional avenues for the artists who attend the residencies, as well as for the territories where the residencies are situated.

This cross-residency marks the beginning of what we hope will be a long-term relationship between not only our organizations but our extended networks of fellows.
