Ayoade Balogun and her Sacatar cohorts visit Alberto Pitta’s studio in Salvador.

Nigerian artist Ayoade Balogun first came to Bahia in 2024 as a resident at Instituto Sacatar during the IDA-Stanford session. As part of the program, Sacatar organized a visit to Alberto Pitta’s studio, where Balogun was introduced to the artist and his work.
Specializing in textiles and indigo dyeing, Balogun was immediately drawn to Pitta’s decades-long practice in textile and printmaking. Sacatar helped facilitate their continued exchange beyond the residency, and now, as a result of that initial connection, she is returning to Bahia to collaborate with Pitta in the context of the 2025 Salvador Carnaval.
